Where & Who...

Formerly based on Milton Park in Oxfordshire, in 2018 we undertook a relocation to Great Shefford in West Berkshire. It was quite a change of scenery moving from a business park environment to a rural village location, but we have no regrets. The “team” comprises just three, namely Gary, Matt & Neil and we've worked together since 2008. We're equal partners, so it matters not who you deal with, it will be one of the owners. When combined, our years in the motor trade number more than we'd rather think about, but with this comes experience and that counts.

When it comes to professional careers, Gary’s was first in further education teaching mechanical engineering, before switching to become one of the founders of Frogs Island in around 1990. Matt’s apprenticeship years were spent working with trucks, followed by various car repair workshops & then joining Frogs Island. He runs his own Land Rover Defender which is put to good use when indulging his passion for overland trips. Neil’s early years were spent at a Land Rover dealership, initially as a workshop apprentice, but was soon moved into roles of more responsibility including Workshop Controller & Service Reception. The Land Rover training he completed we frequently put to good use.


Our knowledge of keeping 4x4's well maintained & roadworthy is considerable. Their complexity has increased enormously during the last 25 years as manufacturers have incorporated a greater use of electronics. Owners enjoy the benefits these bring, but when things go wrong it can cause headaches. With the latest diagnostic equipment to hand, we've the means of getting to the root of the issue.

For the more adventurous, we can help with advice, planning & the preparation of your 4x4 ahead of undertaking off-road/overland or competitive activities. Maybe it's your day-to-day car, but you want to upgrade suspension, brakes, lighting, interior trim, etc. or discuss fitment of accessories. We'll help you through the maze of options.

Let's not overlook the car owner. We're equally willing to assist you. Routine servicing, repairs & the inevitable diagnostic problem solving. We undertake it all.

A subscription to the “Autodata” online resource provides us details of servicing schedules for all makes & model of car. We advise owners to keep their cars maintained in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines, but we're happy to tailor these if/when required.

We are a DVSA approved MOT test centre for “Class 4” vehicles (which is cars). Our customers often combine the test with an annual service, but for those just requiring a test we do these by advance booking only.

Our standard of work is paramount, where getting it done right takes priority over all else. The use only of quality branded parts provides the reliability & longevity we seek. All the above and we still offer a significant cost saving when comparing ours to those of a main dealer, this for a service which comprises no less and is often more.


Courtesy cars are available, as is the facility to collect/deliver cars within a reasonable distance. As is the norm for all workshops, for planned jobs we operate a booking system with a lead-time which varies depending on day-to-day demand. When faced with breakdown or emergency jobs, we will always try to accommodate these within the minimum time frame as is practicable.
